Barramundi (selunsong) life cycle

The Barramundi produce eggs between the months of September and March with the build up period from October to December being the most important.
Barramundi eggs and larvae require salt water and spawning normally takes place in Marine bays and river mouths
Juvenile Barramundi [now200-300mm] migrate up the rivers and ito freshwater wetlands.
If the young do not have access to freshwater they will probably remain in coastal and estuarine areas to mature
After three to five years most of the freshwater Barramundi migrate back to the ocean to spawn

How to tell the age of Barramundi.

Length to age relationship are:

*1-Year-old 30-40cm long,
* 2-Years-old 50-60cm long,
* 3-Years-old 60-80cm long,
* 8-Years-old 1 Metre long

When do Barramundi change sex?

Barramundi change sex from male to female.
The size of the Barramundi can be a good indicator of the sex of the fish.
Most Barramundi mature as males [about50-60cm] and start to change sex to females at around 90cm but only if they live
in saltwater.

What do Barra eat?

Barra are fairly lazy opportunistic feeders they eat just about anything that lives in or around the water including prawns
small crabs and eaven each other.
The size of the prey is largly determined by the size of the Barra.
A larger Barramundi's diet consists of 60%fish and 40% crustaceans [mainly prawns],smaller barra eat mainly prawns.
This will vary according to where the fish is living.

How do Barra feed in dirty water?

Vision is probably limited in dirty water.
Barramundi utilise what is called a lateral line,which is a sensory organ that runs down both sides of the body.
The lateral line enables fish to detect vibrations in the water and so be able to locate prey and avoid predators.

The question of weather it is the colour or action of the lure that attracts the fish is difficult to answer,however it is probaly
a combination of both.

Barra Facts

* Barramundi have been recorded up to 150cm long and with weights in excess of 40kg.
* Barramundi are thought to live to around 20years of age.
* Large female Barramundi can produce 32 million eggs in a single season.
* Barramundi inhabit areas where the water temperature ranges between 20 to 35 degrees Celsius.
* Barramundi can travel great distances in their life; one fishwas recaptured600 kilometres away.

D'Crazyguru: With a lil bit info of barramundi life cycle Hopefully with this article all the barra hunter will improved their way of hunting barramundi and make a useful of it....

From dusk til dawn snapper hunting day 2

Plan for that night actually were fishing at lubuk guru jul (onshore) but the plan had changed to offshore fishing when a friend of mine James call me up and offered me to join him offshore fishing using his 15’ boat and of course I didn’t resist as excited get over me so I offered Dne from the R.D.A Team and asked him if he’s interested to join us…so the hunt begins…and yes we managed to catch a lot of baby snapper and other fishes as well range 1.5kg below….. but still the weigh is below 3kg our mission is to catch 3kg above I guess its not our luck on that nightL so the mission is unfully accomplished….to be continued soon

snapper (bebarahan) hunting at Lubuk Guru Jul, from night till dawn day 1

Gone snapper hunting with the GPP team G-Noh & Nil at the Lubuk Guru Jul Muara As we know lubuk Guru Jul are quite potential for snapper hunting targeted fish for that night were 3kg above Snapper (bebarahan) but unfortunately only baby snapper weigh in 800-900gram and other small fishes were caught by us, guess our mission is still considered unaccomplised guess luck isn’t on our side on that night, But yet the snapper hunts will continued soon….Stay tuned for further post…

boat trip to Sg Kuala Tutong

On the 4th july we went for a boat trip to try our luck at Sg Kuala tutong, the boat that we chartered is owned by Bob (deathklone) one of the selunsong anglerz team crew, the crew were me D'sly and Double D and 2 members of the selunsong anglerz team Bob (deathklone) and Sam since 1 of our crew Bosspaeta couldn't make it for the trip .Our aim for this trip is to catch a barramundi and mangrove jack since we'd heard a rumours saying that Sg Kuala Tutong is the best spot for this species, unfortunately no barramundi were caught by us on this trip so our mission for this trip isn't fully accomplished we only managed to catch a mangrove jack(ungah), kerapu(grouper) and Langisi, the biggest fish for the trip was caught by Double D it was a mangrove jack weigh in 2.5kg and he also managed to catch a langisi as for me I only caught a 3 small fishes, we also try casting but it seems doesnt work so we focus on bottom fishing using live prawn as our bait luck isn't on our side on casting technique after tired casting we've decided to take a rest at the below of Jambatan Serambangun and as boredom strike to get rid of boredom I went to take a nap (nyaman yo tdo bwah jambatan ah ahahaha), so overall the trip was quite fun with the assist of Bob and Sam thanks for the support bro, till next time insyaALLAH.more fish yet to come. To any interested parties who are willing to try their luck do not hesitate to contact Bob on 8766560
